“a star is born” and more

This movie talks about a very simple story, but I just can’t hold off my tears.

“shallow” is written by Ali. Jack sings it on the stage. Ali has this very complicated hesitation when Jack invites her to sing with him on the stage — at that time, Ali is nobody in the music industry. Jack found her tallent,  encourage her, and promote her. When you are a nobody and you work very hard, but still keep failing, you are not sure and you are not confident. At that time, some big people believe in you, selflessly help you, encourage you, point out how to improve, and promote you. You just can’t believe that’s real. Lady gaga performs this scene incredibly well, from “not sure” to “be completely touched by the song and Jack’s performance”, and then “bravely walk into this song”. As an audience, you are also totally submerged into the song with Ali, and it is so occupying your brain that nothing else around you matters.

“I’ll never love again” is written by Jack. The last scene of the movie is Ali sings this song at the Jack’s memorial. I think this song represents the best love you can give to a person. “It is so deep so intense so hurt so burning, I just couldn’t fall like that again”

Some other movies I remembered from the past year:

Crazy rich Asians: my colleague said he was watching this movie on the airplane. He laughed so hard and then the person sat beside him started watching it as well. This person laughed even harder 🙂 —- this must be a hilarious airplane journey.

Mission impossible: Very cool!!! Mission impossible and Borne identity are two of my favorite series of action movies. Watching ridiculous action movies is very relaxing to me; probably it is calling the violent aspect of my personality 🙂 I feel something is missing if a person keeps telling me you should be nice and tolerate shits. Instead, shouting and cursing sometimes make me real 😀

Three billboards outside ebbing, Missouri: this is a wonderful, thought-provoking movie. Very sad story to start with. But the movie is not about murder but about life. At these extreme moments, what will you choose? This movie reminds me of “Les Miserables”. It is questioning about fundamental people nature, and the movie does not give answers.

Shape of water: this movie is so thin. It gets the best movie in Oscar last year probably because Hollywood wants to tell people “yeah, we are very open and liberal, we not only support gay marriages but also support loves between aliens and human beings :)” What if you don’t even need to talk about “the love of aliens and human beings” as something special? Is this the least discrimination?

CoCo: I watched this movie at the beginning of 2018. Then in the late point of 2018, I suddenly understand “why this movie should be set in Mexico”. Mexican people value close people relationships and “remembrance”, maybe because Mexico is also a very densely populated country like China, Japan and India?

Before midnight:  This is the last movie in the “before” series. Each movie in the series talks about the stories 10 years apart. Coincidentally, I watched the three movies several years apart, as if I am growing up with the characters. The series is a master piece talking about “romantic loves”. The main thing admirable here is that Jesse and Celine totally go flow with pure love and feelings …

Bridesmaids: It is a very fun movie. It is one of the few movies that I watched more than once. One of my favorite scenes is “Annie did all sorts of weird movements in the car to attract Rhodes’s attention on the highway”. In the old days, my best girl friend and me are also like that. I also like the love story in this movie. This movie tells that “compared to flirts and sex, caring about a person is like a stone, heavy and powerful!”
