(fake) before sunrise
8/2/20 The surgery is coming. Although my legs are quivering, my face still had some fake smile like this :Q
Working at home drives me crazy sometimes, for example, my outfit is a total mess. What you have heard is real. I often wear a formal button down shirt on the top and then some wrinkly pajama on the bottom. The worst thing is that I don’t remember I dress funky and would go out for a walk like this. One day I even did not wear a bra but just a tank top. I found it until I walked a mile and waved to a bunch of drivers on the road. Oh, well, nowadays, many people are shortsighted :D. Another day, I was wearing some smurfette shirt and this young, naked-top, running guy smile big and waved at me very enthusiastically. Once he passed me, he still turned his head back to look at me. Wow, I have not had such “romance” in years, I am pretty sure he is into smurfettes.
This guy reminds me of a story happened long time ago. Probably 15ish years ago, I was in San Diego for a conference. In the last day, I just finished my presentation and decided to go to the shore for a walk myself. I was looking at this beautiful sunset and saw a young guy walking up with his bike “wow, so beautiful” He said. “Yeah” I said, “are you doing your workout here?” “yes, what about you?” “I just finished a conference and was wandering around”.
After some chitchat, I continued walking along the shore by myself. This guy found me again with his bike 20 minutes later, “I am done with my biking today” “oh” “I don’t have anything to do today, I can walk around with you” “wow, great” So we walked along the beautiful shore under gentle sea breezes with this beautiful sunset.
“are you working here?”
“yes, I just moved here for my work. I wanted to see some city different from where I grew up”
“do you like here?”
“yes, it is very expensive here though, so I live in Mexico” (He does not have a Mexican looking, hmm).
“is it easy to commute”
“sure”
“do you want to see my place? you can come over with me tonight?”
“oh, I don’t have a passport with me”
“I can visit your hotel”
“I have 6 roommates” (to save money, I indeed have 6 roommates, sleeping both in bed and on the floor)
“how about we go to the zoo together tommorrow” (I was telling him I like the panda in the zoo)
” I am leaving tommorrow”
……
(oh, how nerdy I was!! I wish I had already watched “before sunrise” by then. At that time, I just kept thinking, oh, this person is nice, and never thought about oh it is a “HE”, haha)
I don’t remember what we have talked, but I remember we bought some food and ate at a bench near the shore. We were random chatting, until I looked at my watch—- it was already close to 2am.
“I will send you to your hotel, it is so late, it is not safe”
“don’t worry it is okay”
“at least, I send you to the train station”
“hmm … alright”
The last train arrived when we arrived at the station. When I was boarding, he scrabbled down his email and gave the paper to me (no smartphones then :)) …
Then then, I lost that piece of paper, I could not find it any more. Maybe because of that, I remembered this story …
