Tesla
10/1/23 My October weekends are quite diverse 🙂 birthday party, baby shower, playdate in orchard, then Washington DC, Las Vegas …
Recently, more and more people drive Tesla in town. When I picked up my son in various activities, I often saw some mom is also driving one. Then we smile big. Everybody said “once you have a Tesla, you never want to go back”. There is this layer of specialness for me is that I felt the research that me and my professional friends is doing can directly impact my life. When I saw Tesla on the road, I like to follow it and find a chance, e.g., red light, to waive or smile at the driver, just for some random fun.
Tesla has less of the car feeling but more of the phone feeling. It is clean, no oil stain or engine sound. When battery is low, I can just plug it in. There is still some improvement space of course. For example, it charges slow and the meter is not accurate. Without recharging, I can go to Des Moines easily but not Minneapolis
It is integrated with phone so smoothly. You don’t even need to click a button to lock and unlock the car when you have your phone with you. It is so easy to connect with the bluetooth in your car. Then you can smoothly play podcast and music or do phone calls. It has the wireless charge system so just put your phone on the pad. My favorite is to turn on the air-condition remotely to keep my grocery fresh while I have to be out long. My son’s favorite feature is to turn on the “farting” sound remotely while I am driving (hate :)). It has enormous storage space. The front engine area is now a box that can store bags and groceries. It’s cruise control can adjust speed automatically, slow down when the front car is slow and speed up again when there is no traffic.
Tesla charges $2000 extra for red, $1000 extra for blue and white. So you can easily see who is the rich one in town :). Stupid Iowa charges you $2900+ yearly for registration. I almost fainted. Don’t you want to encourage clean energy?
Early in the week, I have planned more writing for today, but I was too lacking of a sleep at this moment due to a busy weekend schedule, jumping among the conference, the moon festival celebration, and the kids activities. But still, writing something (even boring) can be a good habit to motivate me to write more important stuff I am working on. To add some color, I end the blog with the two beautiful pictures from Chinese 5.27. China has very beautiful natures and landscape too.
