Some experiments

Yesterday, I did an experiment. Then I found …

In this community, people steal ideas to use against you and does not value your input, and yet I tolerant it for so long. Something must be wrong with me 🙂 I think this happens in those international companies which attempted to land in China, then yet they all left.

I have done another “experiment” a while ago. In a social setting with a lot of people, I suddenly walked across room towards a young handsome guy and enthusiastically started talking to him. He suddenly becomes “nervous” and started his sentence with “my girl friend is at home today …” lol, my little bro, you can talk to an old woman even you have a girl friend 🙂

Those are just my playful moments. I hope my experimentees can forgive my ignorance.

Opinion is my own, taking it as a green of salt.

Dear Julie

6/6/22 Recently, I bought a second home at the most center of Manhattan. I signed the contract at 5/20 (it is a natural date resulted from our purchasing progress), and I was thinking, “today is a Chinese Valentine’s day? my son was born at a western Valentine’s day, and both are my beloved products. Interesting!”. My parents were chickened when they heard this news but they fully supported me (touching!). Jeremy even doesn’t want to talk about it, haha — I am a fully trouble maker most of the time to men. Of course, I bought using my own money (muscle).

In Manhattan, excluding the tourists, probably 90% of people are younger than me, 80% are more attractive than me, 70% of are richer than me, 60% are more sophisticated/elegant than me… Julie is one of such girls and she is from Seoul. We often joke that she supports all of my play and I help her find a boy friend, haha. With her support, I have started two groups, “NYC the best girls’ night” and “Outdoor Adventures AnyWhere”. Most of the time, I am out playing with what so ever and she happily joined me. The coordination is very easy. I admire her strength of building friendships, considering that most of people in Manhattan run around for their own agenda all the time. BTW, after I heard that my industry colleague makes 800 k a year, I totally gave up my guilty of not working hard.

Julie is younger than me, but she is like my big sister. Early in the winter, I often told people “i have to dress up for Julie”, Julie then said to people “you know, she always wears this orange jacket EVERYWHERE … “. Sigh, it sounds like I am one of the homeless in NYC :). Nowadays, I learned to wear dresses and put up make ups to make sure that my friends do not look bad when going out fine dining with me. I also do charity running events with Julie. She taught me how to prepare my breakfast with black beans to increase my protein intake. My favorite part of our hangout is that we sometimes escape a day from work and play somewhere out of town.

One time, a group of girls finished high tea, and then someone asked, “where are you going next?” I said “I am going to museum of sex” “I want to go too … ” ” me too …” Shit, I don’t know so many girls are enthusiastic about going to the museum of sex. Hmm, maybe they just get bored?! Then I added “you know, there is a museum of mathematics across the museum of sex too, if you are interested, we can go there too”. “errh .. ” one girl showed an expression; “it is boring…”, Julie said. Hmm, maybe the market is I should go to museum of sex with my girl friends and going to museum of mathematics with my guy friends. At the end, Julie and I went to the museum of sex and we laughed from the beginning to the end. One place of a laughter is that when I was waiting for Julie at the entrance (it is also the gift shop), someone comes to me asking for help. “are you working here? can you help find <product name> ….” Ahh? all the people working in the gift shop wears their products, but I worn a jumpsuit covering from top to the bottom. Hmm, maybe I just look very confident in that store compared to the rest girls that hide behind their boy friends 😀

To celebrate Julie’s birthday in March (I was out of town for my dad), I recently have booked men striped club tickets (she wanted to try this as she never went before). Jeremy said that I should order a lap dance too. Haha, what a world! All these J+ people!

Outdoor Skating Rinks in New York

4/13/22 Time flies, it is already April! This semester is exciting. I worked on 7 papers (not all submitted yet), submitting 1 proposal, recruited many new students, saw many apartments, went to a lot of shows and restaurants, saw many new people, made good friends, played 3 new piano pieces, and did 1 charity run … oh, also dealt with many Covid shit for my parents. Although I did not do much online friendship making, I don’t think there is any change in terms of my love to you all. Stupid interactions only destroy the beautiful past and do not lead to anywhere.

There are many things I can write about New York. Since we ended with skating in the last post, we can continue the topic of skating. New York has three famous outdoor skating rinks, central park, rock-feller center and bryant park. The cool things about these rinks are that you can see skyscrapers, sun, travelers, you can hear the horns, city noises. I think all the skating rinks close around mid March. You will need to book reservations online before you go, only can reserve one hour a time.

Rock-feller center is most expensive but it offers free lockers. It is also the biggest rink and the least crowded (I think). Its skate rental is $10. Bryant park is free, but it is the smallest and the ice is like a piece of glass. I felt down quite a few times as my skates stuck in the ice. Bryant park is also the most crowded. Central park is the second most crowd. I went there 10:00am waiting for its opening then it is not too bad. Central park has the most expensive skates rental (20$-30$?) and locker rental ($8?). After skating at the central park, I got mad :). I went outside of Manhattan and bought my own skates. This skate shop is professional, called Westside Skate. You can make an appointment with their specialist to fit and mold a good pair of skates for your feet. (too sleepy to continue, come back later if I remember more things)

Pandemic story

3/29/22 I had a much stronger title about this story, but maybe the story is strong enough and don’t need a stronger title.

Nowadays, talking about pandemic seems to be out of fashion in NYC. People mostly live a happy and normal life. Then this story happened.

The story began in January. Since I left Ames, my parents had pinged me many times and desperately wanted to go back to China. Many China-US airlines have been canceled since pandemic. Only a few major airplanes run twice a week between US and China, and often they are canceled too. The policy is something like 5 positive cases arriving in China in a plane, the next flight of the same airline will be canceled, and for 10 positive cases, the next 2 weeks of flights will be canceled. Finally, I got two tickets for them, $3500 per person, from Detroit to Shanghai. The policy is that every passenger has to arrive in Detroit (site of the direct flight) 7 days before the departure, and do a PCR test at the designated lab, and then at the 2 days before the flight, the passengers have to go to two different designated labs to do another two PCR tests (total $463 + 7 days of hotel and food + taxi to the labs). If you test negative, then you need to download and fill a complicated app to apply the “health code” that allows you to enter China. Many parents do not speak English so their sons or daughters had to take a leave from work, go to Detroit and help arrange things for a week. In my case, I had a friend who took her mom and she helped to take my parents to the labs for test so I can arrive in Detroit a bit later. Flying from NYC to Detroit is like taking an elevator from a rooftop to the basement. I felt very uncomfortable to interact with the weird and greedy persons I had met on the bus and hotels.

The drama is that at the first test, my dad detected covid positive (I did not hear that he has some strong symptoms or anything) and my mom is good. The poor old couple did not sleep that night and my mom decided to book a separate hotel room ($400+ for 6 days) so she can test negative in the 7th day’s test. She wants to continue trying her luck to go back to China. According to policy, my dad need to wait and go through a “recovery” process before he can go back to China. So I helped my mom with her application of “health code” for going back to China (super complicated and heart attack for the old people) and then pick up my depressed Dad to NYC.

What is the recovery process? You need to stay at the direct flight city, wait until you recovered from covid, do a PCR ($175) test at a designated lab, then you do a chest X ray ($225) after 24 hours of the first PCR, and you do another PCR ($175) test after X ray. All the results need to be submitted to the general consulate of China X location within 3 days since the first test. If they approved, you then wait for another 14 days’ (my dad is 18 days assigned by the consulate) quarantine. Then you go through the 7 day process of 3 PCR tests at labs again. My dad thinks he cannot survival in Detroit alone that way (who can?), so he abandoned his Detroit ticket ($3500) and came to NYC. Now he is staying in my apartment for his “recovery” process. I am taking him out every day to do PCR tests or X rays. The labs are in flushing one hour one way. Currently, the tickets fly from anywhere in US to China is close to $10k. From NYC to PVG, it is China eastern airline, and you need to “apply” for it. I have paid $5000 so that I can apply for it and wait for its approval. The tickets are very limited.

What about my mom? She said when she arrived in PVG, the airport is empty, and all the staff wears biological hazards suites. Currently every passenger is quarantined at hotel in Shanghai for 14 days and has to pay 260 RMB a night hotel fee + 100 RMB food + 40 RMB covid test fee per day (why do they need to do covid test everyday when they are all locked down in hotel?). Then after they return to their local city, they need to stay another 7 days of hotels.

My parents worked very hard to earn their retirement money. Now it is like a tap water opening to pay what?! The most difficult things for me is to cheer up my dad who are very afraid and depressed, and hopefully make a good decision for him.

The stupidity, the fear and the evilness apparently are a part of human being nature. I have been always wanting to escape from them but it is hard.

(BTW, I can be stupid too. In the following video, I was skating at the Rockefeller rink, and decided to film the audience above (with an evil smile), and then I fell hard (see the end of the video). They must be laughing hard 😀 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GrxVm-arFJ66A7LX97mAd9CZt-BYu9_b/view?usp=sharing)

The warmness of New York

3/6/22 Regarding Russia and Ukraine … at some point of my life, I wanted to be a journalist in the battle field. At this point of my life, I felt none of the war is worthy except the one where a mother protects the child. Reflecting in my daily life, I am only hanging out and working with kind and good people and tell the rest I am busy. Great that the earth always has some wonderland like New York (Jeremy hears this, he probably will start arguing with me, then I will tell him I am busy and not available, haha)

To my beloved New York

Came to New York, I become as crazy as I used to be. For example, i went to the Madison Square Garden just waiting for this song.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BFU2VTpZIvZIAldagdrJkSCI3Fs75Mwf/view?usp=sharing

For example, late at night 11pm, i was still singing loud in the street like a drunk person. For example, 3am i was up writing my diary, xixi. Then right now, I am supposed to catch my nsf review deadline, but I am writing blog entry instead?

Came to New York, I often question myself “what the hell i was doing in the past few years?” —– New York is such an amazing place that wakes you up! i met many good people. Yeah, that’s the place you want to be, surrounded by those awesome people!

One time I met an old man in some music venue (where people wrote down their emails). Two days later, he sent me an email said “he has a ticket for XXX concert and his wife cannot come because of work. He asked if I can come” Everything reads fine. It is a famous Russian pianist so I plan to go. Then his email said “I am not looking for a “date” but just want to sit with somebody who also like piano” I WAS LAUGHING for about half an hour. Well, when I arrived that day and get the ticket, I noticed that the ticket is close to $200 and I never sit that close to see clearly the face of the pianist. Good that I remembered to buy his wife a gift.

Another time, I met a girl in my pilate class. Since we lived close, so we walked home together and noted each other’s contact. The second day she sent me a Wechat message. Then I noticed that her Wechat is all about flying around places for luxurious life. She looks like a hot movie star in those pictures. A recent one is that she was in LA some super rich people’s house attending the superbowl party. Wow

It has everything! hohohohohohoho

I was getting crazy when exiting, going in and out and waited for things to beep. One employee came to calm me down, “believe me, he knows it, just walk out, my dear”. 😀
